This is the tenth and final creation in my project on thinking big, inspired by the book by Richard Newton; The Little Book of Thinking Big. The project is to create ten pieces of artwork, one for each chapter in the book including the introduction, each representing a message relating to thinking big i.e. thinking more productively and creatively.
The Chinese character means Twang! or bite.
I have used the bright colours and distortion to represent a twang or shock. To quote Richard Newton directly; ‘To make change, an idea must twang.’ (p.160). For me, the conclusion to the book is that if all the other steps are taken to think bigger and more creatively then you will have ideas that indeed seem to resonate or ‘twang’. Although small there is much more content in the book than I have represented with my ten images.
I’ve learnt a lot about my tools and the direction I can work creatively through doing this project so its been worthwhile. Its taken much longer than I anticipated. This was in part due to my working method – I’d sketch something in my notebook and attempt to recreate the sketch with Painter. In a few instances, I was unable to recreate the sketch and so stalled for a little while before changing what the piece would look like. Overall, I’ve discovered new avenues (e.g. photo manipulation) and been able to work within a larger frame which I enjoy.
